This scheme is proposed to link main rail lines east and west of London via a new tunnel under the city . The project will provide interchanges with the Underground rail system and is seen as an important addition to the public transport network to enhance London's status as a world city. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is central to managing the potential impacts during construction and operation, and is in the process of being prepared as part of a feasibility study.
