LARIF is a non profit making body consisting of representatives from London local authorities and the Greater London Authority.  Its aims and objectives are to increase expertise across boroughs in dealing with railway issues by:

bulletSharing information about railway projects both current and proposed, that will be of interest to other boroughs.  As most railway projects affect many boroughs, this information exchange is considered to be a valuable aspect of LARIF's functions.

bulletSharing experience of measures and practices adopted within local authorities for reducing the environmental impact of the construction and operation of railway lines.

bulletProvision of training where areas of additional expertise and understanding is required. The meetings regularly have invited speakers who are experts in their field.  Examples of subjects that have recently been discussed are railway noise mapping, BS6472*(vibration), its review and implications; best practice in railway construction; Transport for London - future railway projects.

bulletProvision of guidance for best practice.  LARIF is considering the possibility of producing guidance documents to further assimilate expertise across local authorities.  It recently responded to the Mayor of London's Draft Ambient Noise Strategy (City Soundings) and will continue to address railway issues on behalf of the London boroughs.
