The Piccadilly Line and Heathrow Express will be extended to Terminal 5 from the Central Terminal Area (where Terminals 1-3 are located). Provision has been made for 6 platforms. Platform edges 5 and 6 will accommodate London Underground Services. Platforms 3 and 4 will accommodate Heathrow Express trains. The remaining two platforms have been safeguarded for the future heavy rail services for onward connection to the west. Such heavy rail services could also use platforms 3 and 4. Most of the extension works will be undertaken using cut and cover tunnelling techniques.
